Artist-in-Residence Program in Hanoi 2026 – Call for Applications

The National Institute for Culture (NIK) and the Czech Centers (Czech Center Hanoi), in collaboration with the Hanoi Creative & Design Festival and Heritage Space, are announcing an open call for artists working in the fields of visual and multimedia art to apply for an artistic residency in Hanoi.

Residency Location and Partner

The residency will take place as part of the Hanoi Creative & Design Festival, which focuses on promoting creativity, design, art, architecture, and cultural heritage. Its goal is to bring together artists, designers, architects, artisans, entrepreneurs, and the general public to demonstrate how creativity can contribute to the city’s development and quality of life. The festival includes exhibitions, public art installations, workshops, lectures, cultural events, and projects aimed at revitalizing the historic districts of Hanoi. The event builds on Hanoi’s membership in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and supports the development of the creative economy and the involvement of local communities.

Main goal

The goal of the residency is to actively participate in the Hanoi Creative & Design Festival and to create a work of art within the Đồng Xuân Market. Resident artists are invited to engage with the Đồng Xuân environment in all its complexity—its physical nature, historical layers, the dynamics of daily operations, and the cultural structure of the contemporary marketplace. These aspects are intended to serve as source material for reflection, the formulation of artistic concepts, and the creation of site-specific interventions that respond to the unique character of this place. You can find more about the concept of the project “Đồng Xuân: An Intrinsic Project” here (the English version of the text is included in the file below).

Outputs

The outcome of the residency will be a newly created original work that responds to the specific character of the Đồng Xuân Market and is created specifically for this location.

Proposed projects can be either temporary or permanent, depending on the nature of the project, its technical feasibility, and an agreement with the festival organizers.
