The Theatre and Education Atelier has long been trying to present the key (theoretical and practical) outputs of students and teachers not only to the faculty through the festival SieveFestival, but a significant ambition of the studio is also targeted visibility to the external environment. That is why the intention to organize ADaV Symposium in an effort to maintain a stake in influencing disciplinary topics and to determine or at least partially coordinate discussions on the future direction of the concept of drama education within the professional environment. The first year students of the follow-up Master’s degree, in collaboration with the teachers of the studio, will generate a specific theme for the upcoming edition, compile a programme and address all interested parties in order to subsequently implement the event itself in the next year in the environment of their Alma Mater. Participation in this type of project not only expands the individual competences of the students involved, including teamwork, but also allows them to establish contacts with specific practitioners that can be used in their future professional life. The chosen topic should reflect a current or neglected area of interest of our studio and the subsequent complete organization of the event (which has not only a factual but also a social level) is an ideal link between theory and practice. An unforgettable effort of regular realization ADaV Symposium is also to strengthen the perception of the Theatre and Education Studio as a professional workplace operating on academic grounds.
On 17 January 2026, another edition of the Atelier Theatre and Education Symposium took place, this time on the theme of (of/not) VALUING.
Appreciate and value, get the price. Appreciation, non-appreciation, depreciation. Worthy, unworthy, value, self-worth…
Assessment is an integral part of the educational process for children – it motivates them and contributes to the formation of their own self-esteem. However, sometimes assessment may not be productive or may even ‘hurt’.
In the field of drama education, we also encounter evaluations at amateur theatre shows. Here, the evaluation is a feedback for the troupes and takes place on several levels – from the lecturers, from the professional and non-professional audience at discussions or through the show editorial offices. How is the evaluation done at the Young and Children’s Stage shows? What do ensembles and their lecturers take away from it? When does the feedback encourage and when does it hurt? These are not the only questions we addressed at Symposium 2026. Together with invited guests, we opened up a discussion on whether – and how – the future of evaluation at shows should evolve.
The 2026 Symposium was intended for all those who are involved in or interested in the topic of evaluation at children’s and student amateur theatre shows – organizers, members of lecturers, lecturers of drama education and students of ADaV and KVD studios.
