Teaching of individual specialisations is provided in studios. The structure of studios in individual fields of study varies; for some specialisations there is only one studio, which is further divided into years, for others there are several separate studios that provide teaching continuously throughout the entire study independently. The difference in such organisational division is due to the specific needs of individual specialisations and specific situations.

Head of the studio: Assoc. Mgr. Mgr. Petr Francán

In our studio, acting is perceived as a profession requiring both technical preparedness and creative responsibility. The basis of the study lies in the exploration and development of the student’s individual stage potential and its use primarily in the creation of character. In the first semester, students engage in acting improvisations to master authentic stage existence under conditions of organic silence. In the second, they work towards the creation of dramatic action (circumstances, motivation, adaptation) within the framework of etudes with improvised text. In the third, they explore different approaches to character composition, and in the fourth the dependence of the manner of its creation on the staging style. In subsequent semesters, students work with directing students to prepare performances in which the scope and difficulty of individual tasks gradually increases. It is the intention of the studio to facilitate collaboration with teachers from other studios as well as other theatre schools.

Head of the studio: Assoc. MgA. Lukáš Rieger, Ph.D.

The studio strives to create conditions for the study of acting as a discipline in its entirety. Aware of the existence of various approaches, methods and techniques in acting, it places a fundamental emphasis on acting, which is understood as the art of transcending oneself by reimagining and reimagining. Psychosomatic exercises, etudes, and stage projects in the first year lead the students to search and discover not only themselves, but in the tension between the authenticity of the inner process and the playfulness of the external conditions, the conditions are created for the creative transcendence of the self. The whole acting education and the first attempts at creativity are put in the context of the future conscious creation of the actor. The second year is aimed at familiarising, clarifying and mastering the basic principles of conscious acting, the inspirational sources of which are the themes of world and Czech literature, as well as the students’ own creations. The work of the actor in creating a stage character is understood as a creative process in which the actor transcends himself with the dramatic character and then transcends the stage character with himself in the process of universal action.

Head of the studio: Assoc. Mgr. Mgr. Aleš Bergman, Ph.D.

From 2023 to 2025, Josef Morávek headed the Drama Studio. This stage was based on the premise: the actor’s life’s work – the object and subject of research – is the actor himself. The work in the studio was conceived so that the students would understand the main subject as an opportunity to develop personal aptitudes and talent for a wide range of contemporary drama forms. Practices and procedures brought energy and dynamism to the work, fostered curiosity, focused attention and joy in acting, systematically developed psychosomatic skills and cultivated the courage to make creative mistakes.

In the academic year 2025/2026, Kateřina Jebavá will take over the management of the studio. In 3. and 4th year, the focus of study shifts to working on specific projects, developing acting technique and creative collaboration: we strengthen fitness, precise work with text and movement scores, partnership and ongoing reflection. At the same time, we guide learners to build their professional equipment independently and to work collaboratively within an ensemble, with a team, and across disciplines.

Head of the studio: Assoc. Mgr. Mgr. Kateřina Jebavá, Ph.D.

The first year is devoted primarily to various improvisational exercises aimed at releasing the flow of imagination, developing partnering and situational sensitivity, and the use of acting expressive devices. The next phase is devoted to the acting fixation and repetitiveness of improvised scenes, moving from spontaneity to a more precise structure and scenic form. In the second year we focus on working with literary subjects. The focus becomes the maximum concreteness of action and the boldness of the actor’s expression. While in Year I students try to transcend their narrow private selves in the given circumstances, in Year II we try to touch the mystery of acting transformation.

Years III and IV focus on further development of acting creativity and technique. Acting technique must become second nature to the students; it must not hinder imagination, but rather visualize it into intense expression. In addition to the acting projects (3rd year), the studio further deepens the disciplines that lead to the mastery of internal and external acting techniques – movement and acting, development of speech expression, singing, basics of movement theatre, etc. During this period, students should learn the art of transposing themselves (their unique personality) and learn more deeply the secrets of acting transformation. In Year IV, the studio will create 4 to 5 productions on the faculty stage of Studio Marta.

Head of the studio: Assoc. Mgr. Mgr. Igor Dostálek

Head of the studio: MgA. Mgr. Petra Drahanská, Ph.D.

In the tangle of all possible and uncluttered paths, we offer students in our studio the possibility of focus and concentration, the opportunity to experience study through an intense discovery of ourselves and the world we are part of. We then incorporate this knowledge into our work on specific assignments, step by step. Touching on different acting languages and creative techniques, our endeavors are always built principally on the joy of creation and the power of imagination. In addition to interpretive acting, we strive to develop insight into theatrical thinking, where the actor is an equal part of the dialogue, to develop authorial acting. We perceive musicality or musicality in our studio as a complexity, a significant emphasis is placed on the movement aspect, not only in the sense of so-called choreography, but also working on cultivating physical dispositions. We strive to transcend and push boundaries; our students are led to a confident yet humble exploration of the nooks and crannies of the nature of theatre and the human soul. They are guided to authenticity, a sense of community, the capacity for self-expression and free communication as a principle of human existence.

Head of the studio: Mgr.art. Mgr. Jozef Gombár

The main goal of the studio is that the graduates leave the school as fully developed personalities who will be able to act not only in purely musical houses, but also in theatres of all types and sizes. Acting students should become actors with a bravura mastery of the theatrical craft, open-minded and perceptive people with a balanced dose of self-confidence and humility. The curriculum is designed to offer the student a sufficient amount of courses from all three major disciplines – that is, acting, singing and dance. The teachers consider acting to be the main part of the curriculum and the most time should be devoted to it. It is extremely important for the student to be able to search for his or her own “I”, to know himself or herself and to be able to include himself or herself as a person in the functioning of the world around him or her. Great emphasis is placed on discovering one’s own spontaneity, on deepening imagination and imagination, on developing imagination and the joy of play itself. These inner skills are best revealed through the techniques of so-called children’s play and contact improvisation. An essential prerequisite for the good functioning of the acting class is also the important group togetherness, which is developed through the techniques of joint music-making, which is also emphasised. However, the technique of speaking and working with texts – not only dramatic ones – is not left behind and is included in the teaching from the very first days. Theoretical reflection and the necessary actor’s self-reflection must not be missing. The most important thing is, of course, to direct students towards practical theatre and the application of the acquired knowledge on stage.

Head of the studio: Mgr. Mgr. Petr Štěpán

Instruction in the studio is designed to lead students through a process of self-discipline that will enable them to remove obstacles to natural expressiveness, to the actor’s interpretation of singing and dancing with an emphasis on the conscious creation of dramatic character within a musical work. Acting is based on the search for and discovery of one’s own identity and, together with the development of imagination and the acquisition of various acting techniques, it evolves into conscious acting. It is taught on a scale comparable to drama studios. A great emphasis is placed on the quality of verbal expression, both in terms of technical and interpretative skills, so that graduates have the opportunity to work in other acting disciplines (radio, dubbing).

Students have the opportunity to acquire maximum theoretical and practical knowledge and expertise so that the possibility of their application in practice is as wide as possible.

Theatre is a phenomenon that attempts to create an image of the world again and again by very specific means. It contributes to its recognisability in a very distinctive way. The basic concept of teaching in the studio is based on the notion of “theatre” understood in this way, and therefore the main axis of study is the search for connections, which is one of the essential principles of creation. If theatrical thinking is to be productive, it must be able to look for connections, to link individuals into larger wholes, to create chains of ideas and coherent lines of fact, to create polemical situations (clashes of contrasts) and to evaluate them. The structure of individual lectures and seminars and the structure of the entire study programme is built on this basic principle – sorting, connecting, chaining. Directing and dramaturgy are understood as a way of thinking about the world; at the same time, it is a search for ways to embody such thinking in a creative theatrical act.

The curriculum is aimed at developing the creativity and creative personality of the student. Emphasis is placed on the context of related disciplines that directly influence the creation of the dramaturgical and directorial concept of a theatre project (literature, music, visual arts, film, etc.). Throughout their studies, students are encouraged to work as a team, which within the studio is primarily a mutual cooperation between the dramaturg and the director. The work with the actor is considered very important as the most important means of the director’s way of expressing himself on stage, searching for the actor’s truth, authenticity and richly structured character; the cooperation of dramaturgy and directing students with acting students is mainly realized within the framework of projects.

The Bachelor’s programme is more analytical and more factual, so that the student acquires the necessary knowledge base in the history and theory of theatre and dramatic arts. At the same time, however, the creative component of talent (imagination and fantasy) is also developed through various types of performance projects. In the follow-up master’s studies, the exploration of the structure of the dramatic text is completed. The theory of theatre is presented in the form of case lectures on individual issues of modern theatre; in addition, the relationship between the dramatic text and the theatrical production is examined. The study is more independent, oriented more towards more comprehensive production projects and seminar papers. Her own theatrical work is completed with a graduation project, which is a production at the Marta Studio or the Orlí Theatre. In the spirit of the credit system, students have the opportunity to shape their study programme to a large extent according to their specific interests.
