Stage Management and Technology

The Bachelor’s degree in Stage Management and Technology develops the personality of a student who, after graduation, is oriented in the history and present of theatre and artistic creation, understands theatre operations, theatre technologies, professional vocabulary (including international) and is able to use legal, economic, psychological and sociological knowledge in his/her professional practice. The graduate can take responsibility for his/her tasks and the tasks of the members of the creative team, can think, plan, manage, communicate and evaluate.

In the technological part, students will acquire knowledge and skills in the field of lighting, sound and scenic technologies, which are developed through artistic project activities using modern technologies and within the operation of JAMU theatres. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of project management and gain competence in managing small and medium-sized project teams.

Graduates of the Stage Management and Technology specialization can find employment as stage production managers, managers of artistic and technical operations, managers of stage realization in theatre projects or theatrical design of non-theatre spaces, technical managers of festivals. They can also work in industry agencies. Furthermore, their career paths often lead them to become independent lighting and sound booth managers, master lighting technicians, sound masters or stage masters. Talented students may go on to pursue a Master’s degree in Theatre Production, Lighting Design or Audiovisual Production and Theatre.

Transfer of theoretical knowledge and knowledge through project-based learning: monodramas, cloistered projects, Salon of Original Creation, production projects at Marta Studio and Orlí Theatre, international festival of theatre schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER, production of student films, magazine Ateliér 205, street theatre and interventions in public space, etc.

The aim of the Bachelor’s degree in Stage Management and Technology is to educate professionals for the artistic and operational units of theatres, artistic and cultural institutions and entities operating in the field of creative industries with a priority emphasis on the theatre network of the Czech Republic. Project management is essential in the Bachelor’s degree – a theatre production is perceived as a project in the artistic programme of the theatre. One of the main outcomes is the realization of the international festival MEETING/ENCOUNTER.
