The entrance exam will be held on 20 and 21 June 2026.

These dates are indicative, the faculty has the right to change the time frame in which the admission procedure will take place. The exact date of the admissions examination can be found in the invitation to the admissions procedure.

  • Annex 1 – REQUIRED – Concept – please insert a structured concept of your PhD project according to the following outline (total length 15,000 – 18,000 characters – except for the last point h):
    a) Title
    b) Briefly characterize the research topic (length 2,000 – 3,000 characters)
    c) What is the purpose of the research, what are your research questions?
    d) What approaches and methods do you intend to use in your research?
    e) In what ways could the results of your research be of benefit to academia, the professional community or creative practice?
    f) Indicate the anticipated stages of the research.
    g) Briefly describe your personal motivation for the research. How might this research enrich your professional development?
    h) A justified list of relevant literature or other adequate sources.
  • Annex 2 – REQUIRED – structured CV in Czech language.
  • Annex No. 3 – REQUIRED -Scancopy of the document (diploma) of graduation from the Master’s degree.
  • Annex No. 4 – OPTIONAL – Master’s thesis in format *).pdf or .doc.
  • Attachment 5 – OPTIONAL – At your discretion, include a file with evidence of your artistic practice (awards received, reviews, etc.).

It is not possible to submit the application without uploading the required attachments!

*) If the applicant does not submit his/her Master’s thesis in electronic form as an attachment to the application, he/she must submit it in printed form during the interview. This thesis will be returned to him/her after the admission interview.

  • a master’s degree in dramatic arts or a related field;
  • the ability of independent creation and its theoretical reflection;
  • the ability to independently research art, research through art (artistic research) or research for art;
  • Adequate knowledge of the English language to enable the production of professional texts and presentation of research in an international environment

A related field of study of a master’s degree is considered to be a field of study whose outputs (acquired knowledge and skills of the student, his/her professional equipment and focus) correspond to the outputs of the master’s degree of study of the same field of study; the accreditation of the Ministry of Education and Science (description of the field of study) or the Diploma Supplement is used for the assessment of the related field of study; the faculty may request additional materials (study card, study report, annotations of the courses of study, etc.).

The examination takes the form of an interview over the provided documents (mainly the concept of the future dissertation), which also includes a 10-minute presentation of the research plan in English. During the interview, the applicant’s professional competence for the doctoral programme and the quality of the intended doctoral research are examined.

Admission examinations are evaluated by an admissions committee appointed by the Dean of the Faculty in accordance with the provisions of the current Higher Education Act and the JAMU Statutes. Based on the assessment of the applicants’ professional qualities and their doctoral research projects, the committee proposes to the Dean their admission or non-admission to study.

Entrance examinations are graded on a points system. The maximum number of points obtained is 100, the minimum number of points for admission is 70.

After the entrance examinations, applicants receive the Dean’s decision on whether or not they have been admitted to study in the E-application application or by registered mail to their permanent address.
