What you will learn
In the course of your studies, you will learn to perceive your own work more accurately, understand its principles and describe the strategies you use. You will gradually develop the ability to record and consciously evaluate your creative practice over time, including through autoethnographic processes. You will learn about contemporary approaches to artistic research at home and abroad and begin to apply them to your own project.
The study also includes working with professional research methodology, gradual exposure to the professional community and developing the ability to present your work publicly and on international platforms. An important role is also played by the ability to manage and structure your research project, to reflect on its development and to produce high quality publications. Throughout your studies you also learn to provide professional and constructive feedback to others.
Course of instruction
The basis is regular and intensive communication with the supervisor, based on continuous sharing of project developments and detailed feedback. Each semester, students meet at the Doctoral Seminar to present the current progress of their work and to reflect on the projects of their colleagues. Public presentations – both on-campus (e.g., the Artistic Research Symposium) and off-campus – are also an integral part of the program, fostering the ability to articulate and present one’s research in professional forums and in the publication arena.
Graduate employment
Doctoral studies deepen artistic, pedagogical and research skills and broaden the possibilities of further professional direction. Graduates are especially employed in artistic practice, where they use their ability for deep reflection and complex management of creative processes. They are usually also directed to academic or research environments, where they engage in teaching, project management or the organisation of professional activities. In addition, the research and management skills acquired during their studies can also be applied in the field of creative management.
Goal of study
The aim is to create a complex and organically evolving research project that guides the learner from formulation of a plan to its completion. The project is continuously thought through, structured and evaluated through dialogue with the supervisor, fellow students and the seminar faculty. The result is a dissertation accompanied by ongoing public outputs with which the learner enters professional and international settings.
