Bachelor’s Degree
The BA in Theatre and Education combines artistic creation with teaching practice. Students gain theoretical knowledge in the field of drama education, history and theory of theatre, drama and amateur production. They are introduced to the principles of pedagogy, psychology and curriculum documents related to the teaching of drama education. At the same time they acquire practical theatre skills – acting, directing, dramaturgy, working with a group and creating a production.
Emphasis is placed on the methodology of working with children, youth and amateur groups, the development of creative communication and the ability to lead a group in the creative process and in education.
Graduate employment
Graduates are able to conceive and lead a theatrical process with a non-professional group or individual, to create original and interpretative theatre works and to reflect their pedagogical dimension.
They can work as teachers of primary art schools, lecturers of theatre workshops, leaders of drama clubs and amateur ensembles, leisure educators or lecturers in professional theatres.
Study practice
The basis of the study is the connection between practical theatre work and its reflection. Students work in groups, exploring different approaches to dramatic production and developing a methodology for working with children, young people and adults. The study includes production and creative projects, their analysis, pedagogical practice and consultation with teachers. Emphasis is placed on the active search for one’s own approach to work, the development of an individual style and respect for the participants in the creative process.
Goal of study
The aim of the programme is to prepare creative personalities with artistic and pedagogical backgrounds who are able to combine theatre and education in various fields – from formal education to leisure and community activities.
The programme also develops research on the pedagogical use of theatre, especially in the field of “theatre in education” and working with groups with special needs.
