Theatre and Education for the Deaf

The program prepares professionals with an artistic and pedagogical background to work with children, youth and adults with respect for the specificities of the deaf. Studies focus on the artistic use of sign language, artistic interpretation into Czech sign language, and exploration of theatre in education and specific forms of theatre by and for Deaf audiences.

Teaching is focused on practical theatre and movement skills, methodology of working with groups and the basics of theatre theory, including the use of Czech sign language in theatre practice. Study practice includes, among other things, artistic interpretation into Czech sign language and working with movement theatre methods.

To prepare graduates for artistic and educational practice in the field of deafness: from leisure activities to in-school and out-of-school education to their own creative projects, with an emphasis on research into theatre in education and specific forms of theatre by/for the deaf.

Graduates will be employed as lecturers in leisure activities in institutions focused on arts in education and training, in theatres and in author’s projects; as well as actors, creators and interpreters of ČZJ (e.g. cooperation with ČT :D).
