Master’s studies
You will build on the knowledge from your undergraduate studies focused on project management and develop it towards the production, strategic management and leadership of cultural institutions.
During your studies, you will focus on, for example:
- management and development of cultural and artistic organisations
- organisational management and people management
- production support for larger and more demanding projects
- marketing and working with the audience
- advocating culture and creating conditions for the long-term functioning of artistic institutions
An important part of the studies are also meetings with personalities from practice, professional seminars and internships in an international environment. The study links the general principles of art management with specific experience in the management of theatres and the functioning of the cultural sector in a national and international context.
Your studies will prepare you not only for a professional career in the cultural sector, but also for doctoral studies or research and analytical work.
The student will learn how to develop a strategic intervention and its implementation, become familiar with international cultural policy, grant fundraising and be able to apply legal knowledge to the decision-making process. Many courses work with current knowledge, especially in English, and in addition to the literature, we deal with current research reports or position papers.
Graduate employment
Graduates of the study programme are prepared to work as producers or managers in the field of arts and culture, especially in the theatre sector. With knowledge of project management, production and strategic management, they can work in a range of professions in cultural institutions and the wider cultural and creative sector.
After gaining further professional experience, he/she can work, for example, as: producer of theatre and cultural projects, festival producer, manager or senior theatre worker (e.g. director or intendant), marketing manager in cultural institutions, manager of a cultural agency, manager in state administration or local government in the field of culture, etc.
Our graduates work in theatres, cultural organizations, festivals, production companies and public institutions dedicated to the development of culture.
Study practice
The study connects theoretical knowledge with its practical application in long-term projects and interventions in the cultural environment. Students work on the design of strategic plans and their implementation – either for existing cultural institutions or for newly emerging projects.
This approach is reflected in the seminar part of the course, where students gradually produce coherent materials such as strategic or business plans. The teaching is complemented by workshop forms of work and discussion seminars.
The preparation and coordination of the Theatre Production and Stage Technology Studio Symposium is also part of the study.
In order to expand and support their own thesis-related research methods, students are encouraged to apply for Student Grant Competition grants (supporting specific undergraduate research projects).
In practical projects, students focus on production support for larger-scale projects and the implementation of complex or innovative cultural interventions.
Goal of study
The aim of the study is to train theatre or arts producers for top management positions in theatres, arts and cultural institutions and other entities operating in the cultural industries sector, who are able to initiate, plan, implement and manage independent artistic programmes and long-term interventions within the culture and arts environment, including financial support, and to create conditions for these activities in the wider social environment with an emphasis on managerial skills.
The philosophy of the programme is to strengthen respect for artistic work on the one hand and for a producer’s (entrepreneurial in the sense of the term “entrepreneurship”, which is also understood in the non-profit or public sphere) approach to the management of artistic institutions and programmes on the other.
