The profile of the Studio of Scenography at the Theatre Faculty of JAMU is a synthetic path to authentic artistic expression in space, time and situation. The study is conducted as a guided process of conceptual thinking in which contemporary dramatic impulses meet with artistic and technological means. The educational process builds on a visual synthesis in which space, object and light are organically linked to dramatic text and principles of per-formance.
The JAMU Studio of Scenography was established in 1990 as part of the post-revolutionary emancipation and expansion of the new Theatre Faculty of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno. The establishment of the studio of scenography was initiated by the academic architect and scenographer Jan Konečný, who laid the foundations for the concept of teaching scenography at JAMU together with Jana Preková. In 1999, the Slovak scenographer Ján Zavarský took over the management of the studio. From 2016 to 2024 the studio was headed by Marie Jirásková.
Pavel Borák is currently the head of the studio. Teaching is provided by a wide range of valued professionals in the field: Marie Jirásková, Jitka Ciampi Matulová, Matěj Nytra, Matěj Sýkora, Martina Zwyrtek, Magdaléna Teleky, Adéla Szturcová and Jana Preková.
